ABOUT B-FLOOR THEATRE
B-Floor is a physical theatre group in THAILAND that founded
in 1999 by a group of designers, actors, and directors to explore
and develop new work of original physical theatre that can communicate
across border of languages and cultures. It looks to communicate
universals of human interaction and condition in new forms that
are viscerally, artistically, and intellectually challenging.
The non text based productions are developed through improvisation
in "theatre lab" that the group experiments with expressive
abilities of the human body by combining contemporary dance,
mime, masks, gymnastic and martial arts.
To clearly convey the theme of the play to audiences, B-floor
theatre group emphasizes exploration of the element of theatre
creation- objects, light, sound, puppets and films along with
body movement.
Contrast with the Thai folk plays and main stream theatre productions,
its repertories are using less word and are considered as new
and strange for Thai audiences.
In 2001, "Medusa; life without snakes" got 4 stars
acclaims from the Scotsman while participated in Edinburgh Fringe
Festival. And this production performed in Cairo International
Festival for Experimental Theatre 2001.
In 2002, the group was artist in residency program of Alliance
Francaise, Bangkok and produced "Crying Century".
Later, in 2003, its collaborative project with Crescent Moon
theatre; Venus's Party got a big success to portray women's
obstacles in Asian-Pacific Festival conference of Women in the
Arts in Philippines and the 6th National Theatre Festival in
India.
Recently, B-floor theatre group is official selection to participate
in The Physical theatre festival 2005 in Tokyo.
In 2006 B Floor presented The Edge; the lost girl in M1 Singapore
Fringe Festival.
